About Jeni

"I paint the skies with peace and passion because that's the way they paint me."
The aim with my artwork is to create joy in a world of stress.
My emphasis is on the sky and the beauty that it can create at the edges of the day. Most
people will enjoy a beautiful sunset, and those that rise early enough, a beautiful dawn.
Whatever else is going on, we can all stop and look at the sunset for a few seconds, and think,
"Wow, that is beautiful". Each dawn and dusk has the same ingredients, air, light and water,
yet each day the recipe is different. This moment is a view to take you away from that day you
had, or need to face and into a feeling you would want. My intent is to capture such moments,
and feelings, and bring them onto the canvas to be enjoyed for years.
Many viewers express a feeling of peace on viewing my skies, which tells me that I have succeeded
in capturing the antidote to the stress of 21st century life. The sky is an artwork available to
every sighted person on the planet, and appreciation of my views transcend age and culture.
Painting was a frequent joy as a child growing up in Wales and I dreamed of becoming a skyscapist. One early photograph is of me at my little easel at about age 4. The painting that I had completed was a sky. Looking back, much of my early artwork was constructed with the emphasis on the sky. A little later, Paint-by-numbers was a frequent favorite gift at Christmas. I had landscapes and seascapes, but I always wondered, why no skyscapes? In 1995 I came to Southern California, and the vastness of the spaces rekindled that childhood love affair with the clouds. After moving to Malibu, I had an opportunity to work on photography skills. Another 5 months later I was having difficulty getting my mind off one particular photograph I had taken. I had an epiphany: Now, you have to paint!. The sky remains the major influence in my work. Living in Imperial County means I am daily inspired by the skies of Colorado Desert, and travel has allowed me to also work from the landscapes and influences of other areas, mainly in California.
