Studio Easy Hearts - Synesthetic Vision Paintings

The word 'Synesthesia' is from the Greek words meaning 'Senses Together'. The phenomenon is one of 'crosswiring' between senses, and comes in a variety of forms; some people experience tastes that have shapes, or sound that make them want to position their body a certain way. I experience synesthesia as colored letters and numbers, which is fairly common, but also see voices and other sounds or touches as colors or patterns. Music often has visions, too, which can seem like abstract paintings. I have decided to use some of the visions I experience in this way as subjects for paintings.

Doug's Kiss
This is what comes to mind when I kiss Doug. Also, the phrase 'San Francisco in the rain', though we have never been to San Francisco together.
Watercolor, 15"x 11". $175.

Doug's Arm on me
One night as we curled up to sleep, Doug put his arm across my waist, and I had this strong vision. This was also the vision that made me realize I should paint these.
Acrylic on canvasette paper, 12" x 16", $190.

Morning Walk
Here I was listening to 'Structures from Silence' by Steve Roach. At times the music sounds more gray or gray-blue, and indeed the painting does show different hues depending on the light. This piece will also be in the Solo Show in July 09. Acrylic on panel, wraparound frame, 48"x48". $1600

Love Rain
A favorite music artist group - 'The Blue Nile'. This is the title track from the album 'A Walk Across the Rooftops'. Acrylic on wraparound canvas, 36"x24" $550.
