Welcome To Studio Easy Hearts - Here's what's new!
Feb 7th. Solo Show in Whittier Gallery.

I have been overjoyed by how well my work looks at the Whittier Gallery this month. Despite the fact that the rain kept many people away from the reception, we still sold a painting. I'm hoping that those of you received an invitation but were unable to attend because of the inclement weather, or another engagement, will be able to visit the gallery at another time. If you have scheduling difficulties but would like to see the work, please drop me an email; I may be able to meet with you to allow you to have a private viewing if we can find a mutually convenient time.

Well, it got hot here now! The A/C is on 24/7 when I'm here. Despite a few hot days in May, May and June were quite pleasant. That is now over.
The good news about this is that of much of July and August I have so much going
on 'up in the city' that I will miss most of it.
I have 5 pieces in Parnell Park Lobby in Whittier, and am preparing for
two shows setting up in the same week, one in Long Beach, which has turned
into a group show with a sculptor and the gallery owner, and my big solo show
in Buena Park. Well, I said preparing, most of the work is done, I have
some promos to send out, and then go hang it all up! At least now with
having transported most of the Buena Park show all in one go, I know
how much will fit in the SUV - fortunately, all of it.
The latest exciting thing is that I have just completed a mural in Palm Springs.
The young lady is into tie dye and her parents are in the process of doing some
rapid remodelling to the house prior to moving in at the end of the month.
I'll put the final photos up when they have completed the room. As soon as
they had seen the mural this morning, the house painter was dispatched to the store
with the matching color swatches to buy the paint for the other walls, so as
the sealant coating dried, it was to be taped over so as not to drop paint on it!
And here's one of the ones I painted in Moreno Valley in May. From an earlier news item.
May 14th. Last few shows for awhile.

Wow, it's summer already. We've already seen several days of triple digits here in Salton City, and the number of birds at the feeder has dropped dramatically. I think there is only one little bird hanging on trying to raise a nestful of chicks in this heat. The front porch gets so hot, I stapled some foil on the roof above her, to see if we can keep it a little cool.
My other little joy last month was winning a third prize at the TAG Gallery in Moreno Valley Mall - didn't know about this until I went to sit in the gallery - I had missed the reception and awards as I was at another show that day. The gallery is in the Moreno Valley mall and I was pleasantly surprised by the number of drop-ins we had, even on a quiet thursday afternoon. The next time I will be there is June 6th - a Saturday. They have an area for painting with a big easel, so I am looking forward to demonstrating that day! Drop by and see me if you are in the area. This might be the cloud that I paint...

I'm still getting used to saying that my Big Solo Show is *this* year, and not *next* year. I have already completed eleven of the pieces for it, and now I'm able to get them up on the website. These are mostly too big to take around to shows, so I'll only be displaying them here, and at Buena Park, and then hopefully at other galleries after that. Of course it would be wonderful if the Buena Park show sells out... The other new items are synesthesia pieces. Synesthesia is something that I've had all my life -but only recently found is a 'known neurological phenomenon'. Most recently I decided to paint the images I experience. So - check out the new buttons from the front page!

Well, it's been awhile since I've done an update - been so busy!!! What with getting some new smaller gift items ready for the fall shows, and working part time at Riverside, it's been all go. I did have an unexpected, enforced day off, that I'd forgotten about - November 11th is a holiday for the University, and also the courts, so Doug and I decided to take a day to go fishing at Corona Lake. He's the life-long fisher, I just decided to join in his hobby earlier in the year. He'd caught a decent sized trout (13") there a couple weeks back, and was looking forward to a repeat. He caught nothing. I caught an almost 4lb trout. The lake owners take photos if you get a good catch. Unfortunately they are lake owners, not photographers, I didn't photoshop Doug out. Our day though had many other special moments. We saw a lot of birds up close (we were in a rented boat) including a heron that flew past about 10 feet away. Also saw a racoon that wandered down to the water, and two bobcats fighting on the bank... until they noticed the humans in the boats staring at them. Have you ever seen two cats try to act nonchalant in the middle of a fight? We got to cooking the trout when we had a party a couple weeks ago. Doug is better with the barbecue than I am, so he was in charge of cooking this fish. When he couldn't figure if it was cooked or not, he said to me, "Next time, catch dinner-sized trout. Not Monster Fish!!!" I'll try to remember that - we're fishing at Wiest Lake tomorrow!

One of my sayings is that we have two seasons here in the desert - heaven and hell.
And heaven is just starting to break out. It's now cool enough to sleep with the
windows open and the a/c off. Also the porch swing is back in use. This morning I got
up before dawn and sat out on the swing with coffee, waiting in the silence
for the sun to come up.
As I sat there, a hummingbird came and sat on the fence right in front of me,
considered me for about 10 seconds, then went on her way. You can see from the photo how close that was.
Switch to dusk. The sun had just gone down, and, having gotten as far as I could with
what I was painting, I went and sat out on the swing again, to watch the last light
of day across the water, enjoying some silence again, and this time some wine.
I was approached by a young rabbit that came out of the brush in the lot next door. Then,
was startled by the hummingbird that came right into the porch, and took a closer look
than she had this morning. She went back to the fence for a little while, then returned
to the mesquite to preen. She had been about two feet from my face! Wow. What perfect start
and end to the day.

I have so many things now that are going on with my artwork that I needed
to create new categories on the website. I decided to have a total revamp of
most of the areas.
On this page I'm going to be doing occasional news of what's going on
in my art world. Right now I'm looking forward to the next Fair Season.
I don't do many fairs in July/August - this year I've been quite busy for
most of that time with commissions and murals, and have had time too to create
quite a few new pieces for the first show of the season in San Diego. I'm looking
forward to getting back out there - and finding out all the muscles that have
withered over the summer!
We had storms here yesterday. This is one of the sunset from my front yard.
Dawn this morning was even more incredible, but I shot that with the film camera,
so it will be awhile before I get that up here!
